Carpenter Ants

Carpenter Ants are a wood-boring variety of ant that can cause significant damage to internal structures of residences and commercial facilities. 

Indicators of infestation include findings of live worker ants or swarmers, ant “frass” a fine granular wood dust which accumulates as Carpenter Ants or what is often described as the “popcorn” sound behind walls. The audible noises observed behind a wall cavity often sounds like a gnaw and pop sound of the ants as they damage and bore through weather damaged or soft wood. 

In general Carpenter Ants are difficult to treat with domestic products and the “do it yourself” method can often fail due to the removal of Carpenter Ants requiring an integrated pest management approach. 

When receiving a Carpenter Ant treatment and inspection Castle Pest Control will survey the conditions at the interior and exterior of the residence. Sourcing the location of the infestation is only the first step in removing the infestation. A structural review of the deficiencies leading to the present issue will be reviewed and insights with photo recommendations will be provided. Our intent is to provide a strong prevention based knowledge to reduce the risks and chances of requiring a repeat service treatment. 

Some of the expected treatment options to observe will be liquid suspensions of pesticide, granular baits, gel baits, residual powders and in some cases a fogging service for areas such as attics or crawlspaces.

Pavement Ants

Pavement Ants come in black and red identifying varieties. Colonies are moderate to large averaging 3,000 to 4,000 ants. 

Winged reproductive ants also known as Ant Swarmers appear during June and July and may emerge anytime including during winter months. These ants will travel and create new colonies where conditions are hospitable.

Ant mounds appear as spring conditions begin to dry and should be treated before damage to turf and lawn begin to strain the landscape.

Some products that will assist in achieving control include liquid suspensions of pesticide, gel baits or residual dusts. Wettable powders can also be effective at aiding in control. 

Treatments for ants vary and often require an expert to ensure a permanent resolution is completed. It is important to observe all safety precautions and warning labels when attempting to utilize domestic products.
